718 Boxster and Cayman Coming in 2016 From Porsche

January 5th, 2016 by

There will be two new names added in 2016 to Porsche’s line-up; the 718 Boxster and the 718 Cayman. These two-door sports cars will adopt these new names in the model changeover taking place this year.

What can we expect from the name change? More similarities will be visible between the two in these models both visual and technical. They will each have the same powerful four-cylinder flat engines with turbocharging. The 718 model series is a continuation of the proven four-cylinder concept and the history of distinguished Porsche sports cars.

Four-cylinder flat engines have a long tradition at Porsche with much success. In the late 1950s, the 718 represented the highest configuration level of the four-cylinder flat engine. The Porsche 718 came out on top against many competitors with the four-cylinder flat engine. The 718 took first place three times between 1959 and 1960 at the legendary Italian Targa Florio race in Sicily. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans race 1958, the 718 RSK with its 142-hp four-cylinder engine scored a class victory.
