Baker Motor Company Expands to Wilmington

Baker, owner and president of Baker Motor Company of Charleston, Inc., is excited to announce the acquisition of Schaeffer BMW in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Baker commenced operations on August 17, 2015 as BMW of Wilmington on the store’s current site at 4920 New Centre Drive.  The Baker dealer group now consists of thirteen automotive manufacturers including BMW, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Mercedes-Benz, Sprinter, smart, INFINITI, Maserati, Porsche, Land Rover, Jaguar, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac.Baker stated, “BMW in Wilmington is an incredible brand in an incredible city.  This is our first BMW dealership, and we are thrilled to add the BMW brand to our group.  We are prepared to serve BMW clients in the Wilmington market and provide them with the premier Baker Motor Company client experience.”

Baker Motor Company is honored to further the dealerships success after being owned and operated by the Schaeffer family for 31 years. Schaeffer was founded in 1984 by Milton T. Schaeffer, Jr. when he began operations as a Buick dealer in downtown Wilmington.  Schaeffer Buick moved to its New Centre Drive location in 1986, acquiring BMW in 1990.  Schaeffer won BMW’s prestigious BMW Center of Excellence award in 2006 and 2012.  The BMW Center of Excellence award recognizes dealers who excel in vehicle sales, service, and customer satisfaction.

All Schaeffer employees have been invited to join the BMW of Wilmington team moving forward.  Matthew Scoggins, Baker’s Operations Officer said, “Our number one priority is communicating how important Schaeffer’s existing employees are to us.  We are heading into this transaction appreciating that every Schaeffer employee is the best in the Wilmington market.”

BMW of Wilmington will serve customers in the Wilmington, Shallotte, Oak Island, and Jacksonville markets.  The existing 10-acre location has an extensive inventory of new BMWs, certified pre-owned vehicles, a service center, parts department, collision center, and detailing department.
