The Classy E-Class
The Classy E-Class
By Megan Busch
I’m not a girl who knows a ton about cars. I’ve driven Jeeps all my life (as has my mother), and I really haven’t veered off that track—ever. So, I’ve teamed up with the group at Baker Motor Company to try new things, namely cars outside my norm. A few times each month, I’ll be driving one of Baker’s cars and letting you know what I think. This isn’t going to be a series of Car and Driver or Motor Trend reviews. It’s just a girl sharing her honest opinion about some nifty vehicles.
_____________
This year’s release of the new E-Class has had Mercedes-Benz lovers chatting about the car for months, and with good reason. It’s smart, it’s safe, and it’s advanced. And certainly not to be overlooked, it’s chic. The vehicle features an upgraded interior design the exudes class and style. The precise model that I drove at Baker Motor Company didn’t have all the upgrades available on the new E-Class, but I’ll give you some details about those extras as we check out what the sedan has to offer.
Serious Technology
The E-Class is the first to offer a panoramic control panel screen. The E-Class that I drove did not have this option, however, as an upgrade, shoppers can extend the screen to reach 12.3 inches to stretch from the driver’s door all the way to the front passenger seat. This screen provides insights about the car’s performance and all the entertainment options you would need for the perfect road trip (or just a quick jaunt around town). Certainly, too, this screen is an upgrade from the C-Class’s iPad-like mounted option. The safety technology is even more advanced; the E-Class is the first to provide “pink noise” protection during a crash. Part of Mercedes-Benz’s PRE-SAFE package, the car’s audio system emits a soothing noise that protects your ears from loud sound emitted during an accident. Furthermore, Impulse Side inflates in an accident to keep drivers safe during a side-impact collision. Thankfully, I wasn’t able to test these safety features, but they do offer peace of mind when flying down the interstate or crawling down 17 during rush hour.
Setting the Mood
The E-Class prides itself on the ability to create a comfortable, personalized environment inside the car. Perhaps bringing out my inner 8-year-old self more than it should, you can change the colors of the ambient lighting inside the cabin. Accessing the settings through the display panel, the LED lighting running throughout the car can shift from a traditional white light to any color of the rainbow (there are 64 different color options). My favorite? Pink, of course. Furthermore, the smooth leather seats, crafted to perfectly contour with the driver or passenger, feature memory settings, and the heating and cooling systems are incredibly fine-tuned, providing maximum comfort inside the vehicle. Simply put, the E-Class is made to be shown off. It’s stunning inside and out.
Giving It a Spin: Brunch at Baker
Considered to be the most technologically advanced car on the road, the E-Class is worth a test drive. On Saturday, November 19th, Baker Motor Company is hosting a brunch to showcase the new release from Mercedes-Benz. Enjoy complimentary brunch from 82 Queen and sit behind the wheel of the all-new E-Class. Stop by either location—Mercedes-Benz of Mount Pleasant or Baker Motor Company in West Ashley—between 10:30am and 1:00pm. I look forward to seeing you there!
