From The Rear View Mirror – Cadillac
This March, Cadillac will be bringing us the First Ever CT6 with an optional rear view mirror that’s also an LCD rear view mirror. This new feature will allow the driver to switch between a traditional reflective mirror and a rear camera view with a much wider view.
This week, Transportation Security announced the approval of the state of the art rear view mirror capabilities.
“We’ve asked the industry to give us innovations that they think can and should be part of vehicles…We are issuing guidance that this technology does qualify under our current standards.” Anthony Foxx,Transportation Security via NPR
This two-in-one mirror is produced by Gentex Corp. of Michigan. It is offically being dubbed as a “Full Display Mirror” offering a rear facing wide angle camera on the roof of the vehicle this mirror will give the driver a clearer view.
This new rear view option is not a stand alone add on, but is included in the “Enhanced Vision and Comfort Package” (a $2,025 value) that rolls in three disparate features: the rear camera mirror, an “UltraView” sunroof, and ventilated front passenger seats plus heated outboard rear seats.
After its debut on the CT6, General Motors said the mirror will also be available on the Cadillac XT5 crossover. Down the road it may also show up on non-GM cars in the future.
