Baker Motor Company’s Tommy Baker Leads Charleston’s MLK Holiday Parade as Grand Marshal
On Monday, January 19, 2015, Baker Motor Company President Tommy Baker led the Charleston MLK Holiday Parade as Grand Marshal.
“It’s my privilege to contribute to such an important holiday,” Mr. Baker said.
According to a Post and Courier article, thousands of people lined streets in downtown Charleston to watch the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade. Grand Marshal, Tommy Baker walked the route from Burke High School to Marion Square with Charleston Mayor Joe Riley. Mr. Baker had planned to ride in the front of the parade in a white Mercedes-Benz convertible and had invited Riley to join him. But Riley has walked the route for nearly 40 years, and Baker ended up joining him on the ground, both of them waving and smiling.
The parade was broadcast locally on WCBD TV Channel 2.
