Porsche Announces New Compact SUV, the Macan

It’s official: the new Porsche SUV will be called the Macan. Derived from the Indonesian word for tiger, the Macan combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics into the new off-road vehicle. It is also a central plank of Porsche’s planned growth, with the automaker opening up a state-of-the-art factory in Leipzig just for this vehicle’s debut in 2013.

Porsche initially called the vehicle the “Cajun” but said the name might change. The Macan name of “suppleness” certainly is fitting, since it is the smaller sibling of the Cayenne, which stands for sharpness. We anticipate this vehicle to be a smaller but supple – and compact – addition to the Porsche lineup, and we’re excited for its debut.
