smart steps up for NYPD

The New York Police Department is eager to replace its scooter fleet with Mercedes-Benz smart cars.

Department officials desire to have the smart cars because they are more affordable and more maneuverable than the current scooters.  The smart car is safer, offers air bags and is equipped with air conditioning, all of which the scooters now lack.  The NY Police Department has decided to test out 10 Smart Cars and plans to purchase 100 more vehicles if the program is successful.  smarts will be placed in the NYPD’s parking and school safety divisions and precincts throughout the five boroughs.
