Tips to Save Gas this Memorial Day Weekend

May 22nd, 2012 by

This Memorial Day weekend, we know many of you will be hitting the road for some much-needed vacation time. But don’t let gas prices stop you from getting the most bang for your buck at the pump! You can help improve your own car’s miles per gallon (MPG) with a few of our simple tips:

Drive sensibly. Aggressive driving won’t make your weekend any more relaxing, and it probably won’t get you to your destination faster. Rapid acceleration and braking is also a surefire way to waste gas – and cost you money. Just drive calmly and follow the speed limit.

Remove excess weight. You may consider packing extra lawn chairs, bags, towels, umbrellas, and grills, but think again. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2 percent.

Don’t idle. Idling only gets you zero miles to the gallon, and the bigger the engine, the bigger the waste. If you’re stuck sitting in traffic, just turn the vehicle off.

Cruise along. Using cruise control on the highway keeps your car at a constant speed, which in most cases will help you save gas.

Try these tips, and we’re sure your roadtrip will cost you less. Want more fuel efficiency options? Give us a call at 843-852-4000. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day this weekend! If you’re in town, come see us – we’ll be open for Memorial Day!
